Last night was my first attempt at photographing the aurora. I didn't really prepare for it. I was shooting with my Canon Rebel Xti, Tamron 10-22mm wide angle (filter removed to allow in more light), ISO:1600, f:4.0, manual focus.
Lessons learned, for less noise go to ISO:800 or even 400, GET AWAY from the light pollution of the city! The full moon at my back didn't really help either. Fix the manual focus for infinity before your actually shooting the aurora because it's tough to do when it's dark & cold. If it's not too hazy tonight, I will try again.
