Remember the movie Independence day ? It was a long time back, and I used to get a kick watching sci-fi stuff. The movie in itself wasn't that great. I mean Jeff Goldblum writing an Alien computer virus ? No kidding... Ask the kids in CS 101 the amount of struggle they have to go through to get a "Hello world" program working :)
Any how, back to present. I had made up my mind to go shoot July 4th San Francisco fireworks across the bay from Fort Baker, South of Sausalito.
The main problem with that plan as always is the infamous summer fog of SF. I crossed my fingers and wished the fog to be all magically blown away. But that wasn't granted entirely. The ones they shot further up was half obsured by the fog and the rest disappeared in the clouds without any trace. At times it resemebled the scenes from the movie.
But what amused me was the interesting shapes they were drawing. I decided to club these creepy ones together and make an "Alien composite", just to be a little different from the tried and tired frames.
Compared to New year's fireworks, weather was terrible. Wind was the major killer. I read a low of 51 and hopped out without serious warm clothes and and had to sit tight for more than two hours (ok, you know you have to head over there early to get a good spot for the tripod), shivering and cussing all along.
To make matters worse, the heavy winds shook the tripod and since I was shooting with a telephoto it made lot of the shots too soft. I still managed to blot a few of those fleeting beauties on my camera sensor and cookup some composites.
