Until I came across this scene I thought Shield Bugs were vegetarian, feeding on plant sap. Most species in the British Isles do, but there are four species of the subfamily Amyoteinae which are predatory. I reckon this one may be Picromerus bidens. Hopefully someone can confirm or correct this. Unfortunately I didn’t see how it caught this Common Blue butterfly but as it was evening I assume it had picked the wrong place to go to roost. Sad for the butterfly but very interesting to witness.
