CamWall has added a photo to the pool:
Testing a hat trick of techniques here:
1. Dark Field Lighting
2. Multiple, gelled light sources (so it's a new technique for me, haha)
3. High Speed Flash Photography
I'm about 80% happy with my results. The 20% of disappointment stems from my setup/items used (below in strobist information). The back ground I used (A4 black foam card) didn't do a sufficient-enough job of absorbing/killing the light. This caused some light to show up on the fringes (hence the tight crop you see above). Also, I think some light may have spilled out from the sides of my DIY diffusion panels, so when I try this set up again, I'll do the following:
1 Wrap some black velvet around the A4 card, as this stuff is second-to-none for light absorption.
2. put some flags on the sides of my flashes, to minimize spillage onto the black card in the first place.
Still, there are some things I love about this shot:
1. How well the shot looks, considering that there was absolutely no light source in front of the subject.
2. The different gels contrasting on the side, and then almost mixing, towards the center.
I can't wait to test this again, armed with the info I gathered form this shoot, to (hopefully) improve on things!
Strobist (Bear with me, as I didn't think enough to take a setup shot):
--Two DIY Diffusion Panels clipped together
--430EX II placed behind right diffusion panel, blue Rosco Gel, aimed @ camera, 1/32 Power
--SB-800 placed behind left diffusion panel, green Rosco Gel, aimed @ camera, 1/32 Power
--One A4-sized black foam card placed immediately in front of two panels (centered). Card perfectly filled camera's field of vision (albeit just barely)
--White foam core on either side for fill
